In my seminar work I want to analyse The Wasteland written by Thomas Stearns Eliot. I have chosen this poem because of its complicadness of images. I admire the way that Eliot found parallels between many different religions. He was able to compare and contrast without satirising (except for the use of the Tarot card reading). He successfully demonstrated the contrast between life and death through various motifs such as birds, music, and water. Though he also used sex as a motif, he did not do ...
IntroductionIn my seminar work I want to analyse The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock written by Thomas Stearns Eliot. I have chosen this poem because of its compliances of images. The Comfort of Strangers (CS), which was published in 1981, was Ian McEwan’s second novel after two collections of short stories and his novel The Cement Garden. Although it caused quite different reactions among critics, CS was shortlisted for the Booker Prize. CS still owns a lot of the short story, especially with regard to structure and characters’ drawing. The short novel is not exclusively about the frenzies of sadomasochism, but about sexual power and submission.
Jack London´s novels and ruggedly individual life seemed to embody American hopes, frustrations and romantic longings in the turbulent first years of the 20th century, years infused with the wonder and excitement of great technological and historic change. This novel is a gripping tale of a heroic dog, which thrust into the brutal life of the Alaska, a choice between living in man´s world and returning to nature.
