Introduction
The word culture has got several different meanings. It may be used to speak about a group of people who share the same beliefs and attitudes, e. g. youth culture and political culture. But the word is also used to speak about music, art and literature that are a part of our lives. For many people today, culture and cultural life is represented by fine arts, art exhibitions and museum exhibits, as well as going to the cinema, the theatre and concerts of classical or pop music.
Another definition of culture can be that culture is an important sector of social and human development, which contributes to identity-building and self-esteem, fosters economic growth and social cohesion, and helps to promote political participation and ownership. In its mainstreaming sense it is defined by specific values, traditions and behavioral patterns that need to be considered in all sectors.
Culture is the characteristics of a particular group of people, defined by everything from language, religion, traditions and habits, cuisine, social customs, music and arts. Today, in the United States as in other countries populated largely by immigrants, the culture is influenced by the many groups of people that now make up the country.
The word ´culture´ refers to everything that makes up the identity of a particular group of people, society or nation.
